The Secret Life of Tide Pools

Twice a day, the creatures living in a tide pool experience what would be, for most animals, an extinction-level event: total submersion followed by total exposure, a swing in temperature and salinity that would kill most marine life within hours.

And yet tide pools are among the densest, most diverse habitats on any coastline — proof that resilience is sometimes less about avoiding chaos and more about being built for it.
